I would guess that people who are saying Avatar is the best movie they’ve ever seen have never seen Fern Gully, Pocahontas, or any other environmentalist/anti-imperalist movies. Or if they did see them, they weren’t paying attention. When you take away everything Avatar has in common with those movies, you have Sigourney Weaver and really good CGI. Unless I wasn’t paying attention and Sigourney Weaver was in Fern Gully. In that case, please excuse this paragraph.

I saw this movie, A Serious Man, this weekend. It was quite good, and there’s PHYSICS IN IT (dirac notation!) but be careful because it has one of those endings that you’ll keep trying to figure out for like days. I wish I could get a closeup of this board to see how much of it is real.

Recommended Finals Procrastination Project of the Day: A laptop stand made of cardboard. Affords you approximately half an hour to 45 minutes of procrastination time if you have all the materials handy, plus a laptop stand. Mine is a mite wobbly, but if you’re not doing much typing I can’t explain to you how much better it is to not have to hunch to be at eye level with my screen. And it’s FREE!

To those of you saying, I don’t trust just cardboard and hope to support my computer, you are a more cautious people than I.

My first time writing a CH Original, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Mike Parker did an unbelievable job with the animation, and Murph brought an almost indomitable knowledge of the Mortal Kombat series to play during our writing process. Thanks guys- the final product is so much fun.

I just happened by the website for the Discovery Times Square Exposition, and they are having exhibits on three things I have absolutely loved during various phases of my childhood— Da Vinci, the Titanic, and ancient Egypt. For the last week, I’ve been seeing all these fancy Thanksgiving recipes online and interviewees in newspapers fretting to reporters that the tomatoes in their tomato-parsnip relish aren’t organic, or they didn’t mix, roll, and bake their own pie crusts. Do they serve the heirloom beet-goat cheese-authentic Tuscan vinaigrette salad before or after the sweet potato-red pepper-ginger root ghoulash, and do they put the infusion of pepitas and lime on top or on the side? Everyone needs to relax. I’m cooking dinner for my family, and they’re lucky I’m making fresh green beans instead of canned.

That red dot in the white circle is the light that blinks at the top of the pinnacle of the Empire State Building. Which I can see from my own dorm room. Which I can see and take a picture of if I stand on my heater in front of the wide open window. Ok, NOW I live in New York.

Today I saw a guy with a really heavy duty New York Yankees jacket. It was embroidered with all of their different championships and evolution of the team’s logos over the years. Then in big cursive letters it said “26 World Championships.”

So yeah, the rest of the world doesn’t really care that New York won another World Series tonight. But hey, at least that jerk needs to buy a new jacket.

The rest of the world is still also in high school, apparently, where “doesn’t really care” actually means “is crying on the inside their team didn’t win, so they’re pretending the whole contest isn’t important.” Which, hey, it isn’t really, but do we need to be children about it, JKlock?
